The Syracuse Corvette Club started a new charity campaign in 2010 and hopes that it will continue for many years to come. The SCC members were asked to donate, along with their annual Christmas gift for children, one basic hygiene product for teens. With that request, the members responded with not 1 or 2 items each but 5 to 10 items each! We were able to create little "gift toiletry bags" for so many teens. It was overwhelming the items that we received. Approximately 75 gift bags with anywhere from 4-6 items were made. The members that filled the bags were truly amazed at the variety and amount of items donated. Once again, the SCC members came through BIG TIME! The response for 2010 was outstanding..... so let's keep it going!!

As a result of that wonderful response, we have developed a campaign to donate personal toiletry items twice a year to the Onondaga County Social Services for the children that they administer to all year long. These kids need basic personal items all year long, not just at Christmas. The idea was submitted at the first meeting of the New Year to start collecting personal hygiene items at each meeting to create gift bags for teenagers less fortunate and to be donated on June 1st. We will also continue to collect the items for the donation that occurs following the SCC Christmas party. Also, it was voted upon at the meeting unanimously that $100 will also be given to Julie Pouliot to purchase any items that we are short on from making a complete toiletry bag.

So everyone, please make a real effort to purchase just 1 item with your groceries each week to donate at the monthly meetings. These items do not have to be top shelf brands. We are looking for basic items; toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, bar soap, bath gel, combs, brushes, bath sponges, loft sponges, lotions, deodorants, razors, shaving gel, mouthwash, Q-tips. Basically everything we take for granted in our everyday hygiene routine but these pre-teens and teenagers don't have the availability for economic reasons. Help them to fit in among their piers.
Give all year, not just in the
Holiday season. Please...

IDEAS-

  • How many of you have received lotions, bath gels, hand creams as gifts this past Holiday season and it wasn't a brand or fragrance you care for? Here is the perfect outlet for you to donate them instead of leaving them on the shelf in the closet to grow old and unused.
  • Ask your friends and relatives for these items that they have may received for the Holiday season. Spread the word to your neighbors, cousins, aunts, uncles.
  • Are you a frequent traveler and those little bottles of complimentary shampoos, conditioners, mouthwash and lotions are left in the hotel? Throw them in your suitcase, donate them. Every little bit helps!

  •     Have a friend or relative that owns or works for a hotel / motel chain?
Ask them for a possible donation of these items.
  •     Going to the dentist soon? Ask him for a toothbrush. They are always
happy to give them to you ! Ask him for a spare!
  •     Tell your dentist what we are trying to do, maybe they will want to
donate a box of them...great advertising if their dental office is imprinted
on the toothbrush. And those small toothepaste tubes are just what we
        need!  They are PERFECT!
  •    Do you have a connection at Proctor and Gamble? How about Johnson
& Johnson? Get net working with them and drum up some products!

We thank you in advance of your

very giving and continuous generosity.

THE KIDS THANK YOU!
