On Saturday evening August 16th 12 cars with 20 SCC members cruised to Oswego Speedway. Although 27 cars originally signed up, the threat of rain scared some people off.
We crossed the track @ and lined the cars out in a fan shape on the grass area between turns 3 & 4. It was said that the cars would be safe here, but a few members appeared a little worried when the race cars came into the pit area off the backstretch at turn 3 and came directly at our BEAUTIFUL cars!
When we arrived at it was 85 degrees and when we took our parade laps at it was 77 degrees. We took 3 pace laps at a torrid speed, roaring out of the 4th turn into a beautiful Oswego sunset (actually the pace car never got out of 3rd gear and was doing approximately 30 MPH when he caught the car in the rear of the line in turn 3 of the 2nd lap). One of the announcers commented that "they sure go a lot faster than this when they pass me on the Thru-way. "
The announcers read an article about the club provided by Historian Jon Smith. They also described each members car by year, color and some of their personalized comments along with the member/guest in each car.
We then parked the cars between turns 3 & 4, where we had been originally, for the rest of the evening for display to the race fans. The cars proudly flew our new club flag! The club was also recognized over the public address system as the nights fuel sponsor for the Stowell Racing Super modified # 89.
We were as the say, "the Belles of the Ball"...The SCC received a lot of recognition throughout the evening's event. The spectators enjoyed the great view of the Only American Sports Car!
Everyone had a great time, but really wished they had ear plugs as the cars are very loud, particularly from our VIP viewing point at the exit of turn 4. Last but not least we have to mention the weather, as this is always one of the key factors for an event report
IT WAS BEAUTIFUL WITHOUT A DROP OF RAIN!!.
The Syracuse Corvette Club would like to thank theOswegoSpeedway for Showcasing the Syracuse Corvette Club for the evening. It was a fantastic night!
